IT’S OVER

May 2, 2012

Alright guys. Real talk. This is the end of the blog. I know it’s devastating. But I believe in your ability to push forward and embrace the change. Lil’ Shari is gonna take over from here, she just doesn’t know it yet. But don’t worry. I’ll train her. And by that I mean I’ll make her read some of my posts and get a sense for the atmosphere of the blog, and from there make it her own. Because that’s important. And nobody can replace me. Mostly because nobody can replace me.

Final thoughts, because I know you all care. Go to class and study and all that jazz, but cherish the long nights and the time you choose to be with friends instead of text books. Make the memories because they last longer than the grades. Work hard, but enjoy your time here. These are the most formidable years of your life, or should be anyway, so make the most of them! Stay out late and laugh a lot, and embrace afternoon naps. Write your papers and turn them in on time, but make your friends a priority. They matter. Take lots of photos, because you’ll regret it if you don’t. Take care of yourselves, but don’t miss out on the fun life has to offer. Your time here is too short to sacrifice the good times.

So that’s all, folks. I’m graduating in THREE DAYS. Peace out, girl scouts. SEE YA WOULDN’T WANNA BE YA!

When did April fly by?!

April 20, 2012

Guys. It’s the end of April. That means it’s almost the end of the year. We have one more week of classes and then finals, and THAT’S IT. Summertime. Freedom. Terrifying real world for the seniors. When did this happen?! I don’t remember that much time passing. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that we didn’t have a real winter. Or maybe it’s my senioritis mentality. Or maybe this semester just went really fast. But it feels like just yesterday I was a sophomore livin’ it up in the dorms. Good ol’ Morrison Hall. Regardless, May 2012 is almost upon us. I hope all of you have wonderful summer plans that you’re looking forward to and that you embrace that vacation. I think it’s gonna be a good one :]

Alright, CDC business. TCID is over – did you all get some good interviews? I know my roommate came back feeling good about the event. I hope the rest of you did as well! There’s nothing else planned for this academic year, but I will clue you in on a big event coming in the fall.

The first annual Alumni Career Fair is going to take place on Tuesday, October 2nd, in the Reardon Lobby. It will be from 5am to 8pm, and all AU students are encouraged to attend. Registration is already open, so if you know you want to be there (and you should ALL want to be there),  click here to register. This job fair provides an opportunity for students and alumni to connect with participating employers representing a wide range of industries. Gonna be a good time!

Other than that, senior send off is coming up next Friday and Spring Bash is happening this next week as well. You should probably go to both of those things. Also, graduation is on May 5 at 3pm in Kardatzke. Do you have friends graduating? Everyone can attend, so go support the seniors embarking on their next journey. We’re about to become real people! Come celebrate with us.

Oh! One other thing! Happy Friday everyone :] Have a fabulous weekend!

It’s 79 degrees right now.

March 19, 2012

Dear Indiana, I know you’re confused about what season we’re in. You have been all year. It’s okay; I accept you for who you are and appreciate the early summer. It’s March, by the way. But that’s not important.

How was everyone’s spring break?! I would say I hope you went somewhere warm, but from what I hear you could’ve stayed here and been warm. Winner. I was the smart girl who went somewhere cold… but it’s fine. My week was still fabulous. Hope yours was as well!

There’s only one thing you need to know about from the good ‘ol CDC, and it really only applies to a small portion of you. So for all you senior ed majors, listen up.

TCID will take place next month on April 18, 2012 (Wednesday) at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville, IN. The fair will be from 8am to 3:30pm. You will have the opportunity to network and interview one-on-one with over 50 schools seeking newly certified teachers. Sign up on Raven CareerLink today!

That’s it kiddos! Hope you have a fabulous week. Get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather!

SPRING BREAK 2012

March 9, 2012

FINALLY. Have a wonderful week, kiddos!! Stay safe and soak in that vitamin D :] See you in a week!

I am loving this sunshine. Literally.

February 27, 2012

Well a happy Monday to you all! February has flown by. Before you know it May will be upon us and another class of seniors will roll right outta here, myself included. That will be a bittersweet day. I will miss you all. Before that happens though, we have a lot to get through! Classes, papers, exams, finals, SPRING BREAK. That last one is really what’s keeping all the others going. If we can just survive through next Friday, kids, we’re home free. A whole week off and then just a month and a half to go. You can do this. I totes believe in you. And after that, this blog goes away. I think Shari will pick one up herself, or at least I think she’s supposed to. So there will still be a voice for the good ol’ CDC, but it won’t be mine. And that’s the real tragedy. We’ll just have to find another way to hang out…

Okay I got a little carried away there. But I only have one thing to remind you about right now, and that is:

Teacher Candidate Interview Day will be April 18 from 8am to 3:30 pm. It will be at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville, IN. More than 50 schools will be in attendance seeking new teachers, so seniors this is for you. Take your resume and get ready to network. Registration is OPEN so log on to Raven CareerLink to sign up.

That really is all I needed to tell you about. I’ve been editing resumes like crazy because of the new system we put in, so that’s why it’s been a couple weeks since my last post. Speaking of, if you’re not aware, we are doing resumes differently now. You should have received an email about it, but if you didn’t, just know that ANY document you create or upload through Raven CareerLink gets looked at and edited right here at my desk. Or at Laurie’s desk. Or at Jo’s desk. It just depends what kind of document it is. But the point is, they all get reviewed and sent back to you. After the first review we automatically approve it, so it’s up to you to implement the changes we’ve suggested.

Okay, I’m done talking. I hope you all have lovely weeks and have some time to get out and enjoy this weather. Here’s hoping it just dances right on into spring and we don’t have to revisit colder temperatures and dreary skies. And I’m definitely fine with no more snow. Have a good afternoon friends!

Spring has come early!

February 6, 2012

Hello chickadees!!

I’m so sorry I’ve been lagging here. I would tell you I’ve been extremely busy at work and that’s the reason for my delay in posting, but the truth is I’ve completely forgotten to keep it up. This weather, I think, has thrown me off my game. I didn’t even wish you well on your Spring semester when we returned! My bad, y’all. My bad. But I’m here now, and I think we can work through it. So. I hope all of you had fantastic Christmas breaks (which seems forever ago), and have had wonderful semesters thus far. And that you have actually been studying/writing those papers/completing assignments/going to class in spite of the sunshine tempting you to do otherwise. I know it’s rough, but I believe in you! It’s already February; you can totes make it to May :]

Alright. Business. The lovely middle part of my blog that I know you read every. single. time.

We have a few events happening this week that you should know about.

First up, AU Missions Fair will take place TOMORROW from 9:30am to 3pm and WEDNESDAY from 9:30am to 2pm in the BOD. There will be employers from various Christian organizations promoting jobs and internships they have available. For more information on this opportunity, please email samacmurray@anderson.edu. Or just show up!

Then, on THURSDAY, Campus Crusade for Christ will be on campus to recruit for positions in the computer science field. They will be at a table in the BOD from 12:00pm to 1:15pm, and then they will conduct a Q&A session in the Decker Lab from 1:15pm to 1:45pm. For more information about the organization, you can view their employer profile on Raven CareerLink.
NOTE: Campus Crusade will be conducting interviews in the morning in Decker 358. If you are interested in interviewing for a position, please view them on Raven CareerLink. You may email your resume to Joe Berlingeri directly at Joe.Berlingeri@ccci.org or (407) 854-1250.

Coming up later:

Are you thinking about attending graduate school? There will be a virtual information session about the application process streamed live in Decker 358 on February 13 at 4pm. Don’t want to leave your room? You can view this session from your own computer!  Register Here to have the link emailed to you.

The Collegiate Career Expo will take place on February 22 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The event is open to all students and alumni, and will start at 10am and go to 3pm. More than 85 employers will be in attendance. Registration is NOW OPEN. When registering you must scroll the bottom of the page and confirm your request.  For more information about this event please go to the CCE website.

ATTN: SENIOR EDUCATION MAJORS! Registration is NOW OPEN for Teacher Candidate Interview Day. This career fair will take place on Wednesday, April 18, at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville. It goes from 8am to 3:30pm. At this all-day event you will have the opportunity to network and interview one-on-one with more than 50 schools seeking newly certified teachers. There is a 2-step registration process, so sign up now!

And finally, the Inner City Impact recruiting event previously scheduled for March 9 has been CANCELED. So if you were planning to attend, mark it off your calendar because they won’t be here. But I’m sure they’ll be back another day. They do happen to like us.

Okay. That was a lot of information, I know. That’s what happens when you get behind on your duties. Note to self: keep up with your duties. As for the other important aspects of life, this coming weekend is a Cheap Thrills/Encore weekend. And the temperature is supposed to fall again by the end of the week, so we’ll see what that means. I know it’s only February, but I’m hoping for a continuation of this spring weather we’ve been having. And by that I mean dry ground and clear skies. I don’t really care about the temperature, but my west coast blood appreciates the lack of snow and ice all over the ground. Just putting that out there.

That said, have a fantabulous week, friends. Enjoy the sunshine while it’s here. And hey, let’s do coffee, ya? Kgreat :]

Happy Hump Day!

November 16, 2011

Hello Lovelies. Here we are, in the middle of the week. The temperature is dipping. Drastically. I’m not a fan. That said, only one week until Thanksgiving break! FINALLY. I’m seriously so excited to have a break. It’s necessary. And Thanksgiving always brings the rush of the end of the semester. Unfortunately that means extra stress as we try to finish everything we need to do before leaving for a month. But you know what? We can do it! I know we can!

So what’s everyone doing for break? Going home? Going to visit a boyfriend or girlfriend? I’ll be in Ohio, like I do. Visiting my little cousins and having dance parties in the living room. Should be a good time! And of course eating a lot of food. Because in the true spirit of American holiday, Thanksgiving is really about stuffing yourself until you can’t move and then simply falling into a food coma on the couch with football playing in the background. That’s national pride right there, people. And I. can’t. wait.

Okay. That’s really the only reason I wanted to write a post today, because I probably won’t have the chance to before break. But I suppose while I have you here I can tell you about the events coming up for the rest of the semester.

Nov. 17 – Experience Mission will be on-campus from 9am to 3pm in the BOD. They are seeking leaders for their spring and summer internships. More information can be found at experiencemission.org.

Nov. 21 – Inner City Impact will be on-campus from 9am to 3pm in the BOD. They are seeking juniors and seniors for full-time employment openings or spring internship openings. For more information, please visit innercityimpact.org.

Dec. 1 – Grace College will be on-campus from 9am to 2pm in the BOD. Grace College will be providing information about their graduate counseling program. For more information, please visit grace.edu.

Alright that’s it for now. If anything changes, our Facebook page will tell you all about it. Are you friends with us on Facebook? Make that happen. We’re cool. Clearly.

Okay but I do have a serious question for all of you: What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? And don’t tell me you can’t pick because you like it all. That’s my answer. No stealing answers! Well, except I hate green bean casserole. But other than that. Oh and you also can’t say that you don’t really like any of it, like one of my apartment-mates. Love the girl, but seriously? Who are you? So tell me your favorite. Just because.

Have a wonderful day, AU! And enjoy the rest of the week. And have a great holiday. And all that jazz.

Long time, no chat!

November 7, 2011

Get it? Because it’s Career Chat? Okay give me a break; it’s Monday. But it’s a good Monday. I’m not sure why, but it is. Actually I tend to like Mondays. I think I told you that last year. It’s still true. But it’s a lovely 60 degrees out, and I even appreciate the overcast skies. Makes me want to wrap up in a blanket and watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S. all afternoon. Which I did during lunch. Except for the blanket part. Since it’s 60 degrees out. Ya know.

Okay sorry. Career stuff.

YouthWorks! will be here tomorrow.

Computer Science/Tech Career Day on Wednesday.

S.A.F.E. Management will be here Friday.

Experience Mission will be here Thursday next week.

Inner City Impact will be here two weeks from today.

Log on to Raven CareerLink for more information on any of these organizations or events.

So how was everyone’s weekend? All three of my roommates were gone, so I was by myself for a couple days. It was nice to just be, but after a bit of that it got kinda lonely. Moral of the story: don’t leave your roommate all by herself or she’ll feel like nobody loves her and she doesn’t have any friends. /exaggeration

But I did get to see the new Footloose movie! I was a little concerned about it just because remakes are often iffy. You can’t help comparing it to the original. But they did a good job modernizing it while still staying true to the story. They  actually took certain lines straight from the first, which was entertaining. It was cute :]

Alright chickadees that’s it for me today. I’ll touch base again soon. Have a wonderful week!

Case of the Mondays

October 24, 2011

Heyyyy Ravens. How was your weekend? Mine was wonderful; thanks for asking! Homecoming was super. The weather was beautiful, Cheap Thrills was entertaining as all get out (bro on, DKA), the street fair was on point, Encore showcased our students’ talent and I had the pleasure of reuniting with some friends who have already graduated from this fine institution. Also, AU Rugby won!! Go team! And AU Football played a decent second half! Go other team! Solid time, I’d say. The only thing is those lights at Encore were WAY too bright. I don’t fault ChrisP for that, but next time that needs to be fixed. I mean really. I almost had a seizure or something from that nonsense. Dim ’em down a bit, and you’re good to go. But I figure if that’s the only complaint I can register, it was a pretty fantastic couple of days!

I have a lot to talk about career-wise today. I mean, for the Career Development Center. I could tell you all about my own career plans, but that’s not really the point of this blog, is it? Feel free to call me if you want to hear about my future, though. I’m all about sharing that. Okay, but the stuff I do need to tell you about:

SandRidge Energy On-Campus Recruiting: Oct. 24-26

S.A.F.E. Management On-Campus Recruiting: Oct. 25

Madison County Education Coalition Career Expo: Oct. 25

Actuarial Open House: Oct. 25

Healthcare Career Day: Nov. 2

A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP) On-Campus Recruiting: Nov. 2

Knowledge Services On-Campus Recruiting: Nov. 3

YouthWorks! On-Campus Recruiting: Nov. 8

Computer Science/Technology Career Day: Nov. 9

Experience Mission On-Campus Recruiting: Nov. 17

Inner-City Impact On-Campus Recruiting: Nov. 21

Any of that sound interesting? Well head on over to Raven CareerLink (www.anderson.edu/ravencareerlink) for more information, or stop by our office and we’ll tell you all about it. Also, don’t forget that we are always offering Résumé Workshops and Major Exploration Workshops for those of you in need of those services.

That’s it for me today, guys. I just want you to know that I’m super exhausted from this full weekend, and I’m struggling to stay awake. I’ll probably go make myself a latte when I get back to my apartment. It needs to happen.

Have a wonderful week, you cute kiddies. Love you all!

One more week!!

October 6, 2011

Do you know what happens in one week? Fall break happens. Do you know what that means? It means we all get to sit down and breathe. Unless you have the unfortunate task of working with the football team. And then you should take this weekend to breathe because next weekend you have a game. Sorry. But the point is that I’m tired of holding  my breath and it’s already been a long semester and it’s only October. When is May gonna get here? Also, what’s with this weather?? Not complaining, just confused. This is Indiana, so shouldn’t it be getting real cold by now? Then again, this is Indiana, so anything can happen. I just don’t know how to dress for 40 degree mornings that turn into 80 degree afternoons. What do I do with that?! Cardigans. That’s what.

Ok. Ramble over. I guess I should tell you what’s coming up.

Next Thursday Mission Indy will be in the BOD from 9am to 2pm. You can find out more about them on their website.

Healthcare Career Day and Tech Career Day are coming up next month. I know I’ve mentioned them before, like every single post, but I’m gonna keep reminding you.

Résumé Workshops and Major Exploration Workshops are available throughout the week. Do you need help picking a major? Do you have a major but aren’t sure what career you want to pursue with that major? Are you getting ready to apply for a job or internship and need a résumé? Do you want to come say hi to me? All of those are legitimate things that mean you should sign up for a workshop. Except the last one. That one’s just nice. Please stop by and say hi.

I think that’s all for today. Don’t forget that the play, I Love A Piano, is showing again this weekend. Go out and support the kids! I’ll be there Sunday. Also, Shane and Shane concert. Tonight. Reardon. Go. And I was serious about stopping by to see me. It would probs make my day.

Have a great day, friends! And always remember: Each day puts us a little bit closer to Friday. Now that’s something to celebrate.
