What is sleep?

September 28, 2011

Hello, AU! Welcome to the post-Surge recoup week. Is anybody else as exhausted as I am? I mean, probably. We all worked hard and got a little crazy. But it felt much longer than a week. Maybe a couple months. My days run together. Well are you all enjoying club? I would hope so! You put in a lot of time to get there! I know I’m stoked about all the new members we had join our ranks last week. Definitely a group of quality women that I can’t wait to get to know better. So now that it’s all over, I must return to a regular schedule and remind myself what homework, sleeping and eating are. Challenge.

You know what else was last week? Accounting Interview Day. Who went? Was it successful? Did you network and get some good feet in doors? I hope so!

Next up is Healthcare Career Day. That’s not until November 2, though, so no panicking. But do be sure to sign up and show up.

Also, on October 4 (that’s next week, people!) the International Schools of China will be recruiting on campus. They will have representatives in the BOD from 9am to 3pm. They are seeking seniors and grad students for various full-time positions in their six international schools in China. For more information about this organization, visit their website.

That’s all for today, chickadees. Don’t forget to attend CAB’s Disco Dancing and Donuts this weekend. Also, my Andersonian article is front page this week. Just thought I’d throw that out there. It’s whatever. Have a good one!

Good Morning, Bright and Early!

September 22, 2011

Well, hello, fellow AU students. Happy Thursday morning. It’s 8:00am and still a tad dark outside. But it’s supposed to be beautiful today, according to weather.com. It’s not supposed to rain until later this evening. Of course I hope it won’t rain at all and will stay dry for social clubs’ sake. Almost all activities are taking place outdoors this week. And rain or shine, we will be outside completing Surge. So please, God, keep it dry. I don’t want to get sick.

Speaking of clubs and Surge, how’s it going?? Who of you is participating this week? Are you enjoying it? Is it a positive experience? Just remember, when it gets tough you gotta just push right through it. I promise it will be worth it in the end. You’ll be so glad you finished. I know I’m exhausted already, but we’ve had such a great week so far. I’m also loving the Boosters gentlemen. Definitely one of my favorite parts every year. And I was presented with llama and beaver cutout statues today. Thanks, Colin Rudkin and Dativus!! :]

Okay. Enough about that. Business.

Today is Accounting Interview Day. So if you were planning on going and never got around to registering, you’re too late. But if you would like us to look over your résumé we would be more than willing. Please send it in. We want to help.

Healthcare Career Day and Computer Science/Technology Career Day are fast-approaching. Register for either of those on Raven CareerLink. Don’t miss out on these exciting opportunities!

Résumé Workshops and Major Exploration Workshops are still available! Sign up today for one of our services to get you on your path to graduate or get hired – whichever the case may be.

That’s all for today kiddos. I hope you’re all getting sleep and keeping hydrated. Just because it’s not 100 degrees outside doesn’t mean you can slack on the water. Please be safe. And have fun! Even when the officers yell at you. Just don’t let them see you cry. Wait until you get back to your dorm afterwords.

Have a wonderful day! See you around :]

Well, happy Monday, kiddos.

September 12, 2011

So it’s week three here at the lovely Anderson University. How about this weather? I definitely thought it was going to continue with the cold spell right up until the snow started hurling from the sky, but no. Here we sit in lovely sunshine and a warm breeze. And as much as I loved the rain we were having, I have to admit that this bright day is a nice break from the gloomy grey of the past week.

Okay, moving away from the weather. We are at the start of Interest Week 2 for social clubs. Have you attended any events? Are you planning on Surging next week? Oh my goodness it’s next week. That’s super soon everyone! I gotta get ready. What am I gonna wear?? I’ll figure something out.

If you are planning to Surge, you have to attend one of the mandatory SGA meetings this week. Hence the word “mandatory.”

Moving right along! Career business. We have a new student assistant here in the CDC. Her name is Shari and she’s a freshman accounting major. She’s really nice and you should definitely stop by to say hello. She’ll probably laugh nervously as she says hi, because that’s what freshmen do. Am I right?! You were one once. You know.

Events!

Accounting Interview Day is in ten days! It’s not too late to register. Go to Raven CareerLink today to sign up!

Healthcare Career Day is on November 2. That registration is also open, so please go sign up. Any nursing majors? You better be there. That means you, roommates.

Technology Career Day is only one week after Healthcare. Registration for that one IS NOW OPEN.

So get crackin’ on those registrations, guys. Take advantage of the networking opportunities here at good ‘ol AU. Because we want you to succeed, and we’re doing our best to help you do just that.

And of course, as always, Résumé Workshops and Major Exploration Workshops are available. Looking for a job or internship? You’ll need a résumé. Not sure what you want to major in? We can help you figure out the best path for your desired destination.

Stop by. Make an appointment. Register on Raven CareerLink. Get in a workshop. Make a résumé. Let’s get this show on the road!

And on that note, Fall Break is only five weeks away. Let’s definitely get that countdown started now. Have a great week, friends!

Welcome Back, AU!

September 1, 2011

Hi, friends! It’s been awhile since we’ve met. I hope all of you had wonderful summers. Sad that those months of freedom are over, but we have to get back to reality at some point. And for those of you who had full time jobs or summer courses or any other commitment that consumed your “vacation,” I apologize. Sometimes life just isn’t fair. But you know what? This is going to be a great year! So buckle up kiddies, because the updates start now.

Coming up in the Career Development Office! We have job fairs galore…

Accounting Interview Day (AID) will take place on Sept. 23 in Indianapolis. Registration is OPEN on Raven CareerLink.

Healthcare Career Day is also coming soon! Nov. 2 in Reardon Lobby. Registration for this fair is also OPEN on RCL.

Computer Science/Tech Career Day is Nov. 9, also in Reardon Lobby. Registration is not yet open for this job fair, but you can get more information and check for open registration on RCL. It is coming!

All other upcoming job fairs are in the spring, so I’ll just save those for later. Don’t want to overload you on the first week back!

How are your classes so far? Think you can handle it all? I think you can. I believe in you! I think mine are going to be pretty good. They will definitely keep me busy, but the productive kind of busy that results in a feeling of success. At least that’s what I’m hoping for!

Don’t forget that Labor Day weekend is coming up! You know what that means: all night volleyball tournament! Which prods me to give a little shout out to Beth Boys, the new CAB director and my RD. Guys, she rocks. Stop by the CAB office to meet her because she’s awesome. But don’t try to be her best friend because I’ve already filled that role. Sorry.

Also, Christine and I have a swanky new desk here in the CDC thanks to our new director, Laurie. Moving on up in the world. Stop by and see us! We would love to meet you. Just be sure to register on Raven CareerLink before coming in. Until next time, stay classy AU.

Graduation

May 3, 2011

It’s time, everyone. We only have a few more days with our beloved seniors before they’re whisked off to the real world. I hope you’re spending as much time with them as possible before they walk across that stage to shake P. Eddy’s hand. I’m trying to.

Kind of a somber post, I know. But I’m so sad they’re leaving. Half of my friends are abandoning me. Dramatic much? I just know I’m going to lose it at graduation, watching them parade in a single file line to their futures. Anybody else going to be present at the festivities? I hope you come out to support your fellow Andersonians who have worked hard to get to this point.

Also, it’s finals week. I know you all are studying hard for your exams. It’s a bit easier to with this weather. The spring sunshine isn’t out beckoning us to frolic in the valley, so hitting the books isn’t such a trial. But really I don’t frolic. At least not in the valley. So work hard, AU. Get those good grades. It’ll pay off when it’s your turn to walk in a crowd of black caps and gowns to get handed a piece of paper with your life stamped on it.

In other news, the end of the semester is fast approaching. I hope you’re all excited for summer! Where are you going? What are you doing? Do you have a job? Are you going to be a camp counselor? Any weddings to attend? Tri-S trips? I’ll be back in Cali, of course. Like I do. I get to see my brother graduate Cal Poly and one of my best friends from high school tie the knot. Should be a good time. Although I’m not looking forward to packing up all my stuff again. It’s my least favorite part.

That’s all for today. Have a wonderful day, kids. Good luck on those finals!

The final stretch!

April 18, 2011

Here we go, AU! Only eight more days of classes to suffer through! We have no full weeks of school left. This weekend is Easter, so you get Good Friday and travel Monday off. That means two, four-day weeks and then finals.

I know a lot of you had busy schedules last week – did you survive?! I barely did. But I’m still breathing, so I take that as a good sign that I made it through. But I know a lot of the rest of you have everything due this week. You can do it!! I know you can!

For those of you who came out to visit the TFT tent for any of the events, thanks for showing up! Battle of the Bands was loud and proud, and Price is Right was a hit. LOVED the audience participation we had. You guys rocked :] And a lot of great prizes were handed out! If you didn’t get a chance to come, there’s always next year. And it’s gonna be just as fantastic. I’d say mark it on your calendar now, but we don’t have a date for it yet. Don’t get ahead of yourselves. How was the dance/Flop on Friday? I didn’t get to go, but I’m betting it was successful. I hope you took a break from papers and tests to go hang out at the tent!

I actually do have career news for you too! Crazy, right?

Vector Marketing will be recruiting on campus TOMORROW from 9 to 2 in the BOD. They have openings for part- and full-time positions as well as summer internships. Visit their website for more information!

TCID is WEDNESDAY!!! It will be held from 7:30 to 4 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds in Danville. To register, or for more information (including directions and registered employers), visit their website.

So here we go. Eight days. Finals. Summertime is upon us. Finish strong.

March Madness? It’s April.

April 4, 2011

How many of you are following March Madness? Many of my friends are, so much so that at our Olive Garden outing for club this weekend their phones were going off with score updates. Obsessed. But tonight’s the night! Is Butler going to continue it’s reign? Probably.

Career info is running low at this point, as you well know if you’ve been keeping up with it each week. Major Exploration Workshops are no longer being offered this semester, but the rest of our services are still in full effect. TCID is coming up in a couple weeks, so be sure you get registered for that.

Otherwise, this coming weekend is Relay for Life and the following week is TFT. Get involved with Relay because it’s important. I think all of us have been impacted by cancer in some way – either we’ve had it, a loved one has had it, or we’ve known someone who has had it. Be a part of finding the cure.

TFT, for those of you who don’t know, is a week-long event hosted by Novus Dux. Originally it was Teetering for Tots, but now the money is donated to a charity that is determined each year and the name just became TFT. Teetering for Thecharities maybe? Definitely just made that up… This year the funds will go to Exodus House. Each day there will be a different activity out at the TFT tent, including Game Show on Thursday put on by L’Amifidel and a Rave on Friday that will feature a one-time resurrection of The Flop. And of course 24-hour teetering. So come!

That’s all. Don’t get blown around outside while walking to class today. It’s quite stormy. But I do so like the rain. And the fact that it’s not 30 degrees anymore. A few hours ago Decker shook from some massive thunder and lightning going on. Crazy, but kinda cool. Have a good week, AU! :]

Just another manic Monday

March 28, 2011

Well, hello, AU. Career-wise I don’t have much to update. The year is winding down and so are the events. But here’s what I do have:

The only job fair left is TCID, and I don’t have any more information than what I gave you last week. Feel free to refer back to that post if you need a refresher.
As usual, register on Raven CareerLink to have access to all job and internships availabilities we post through our office.
Also, don’t forget that we have Résumé Workshops, Education Résumé Workshops, Major Exploration Workshops and résumé reviews for anyone who needs them.
The INvision grant is also still available for anyone doing an internship with an Indiana-based company. Come see us if you have any questions!

In other news, this is quite the week for social clubs – ELECTIONS! Unless you’re Novus Dux. And then you’ve already had elections. Even though you still don’t know if you’ll be a club next year.

Also, it is quite chilly outside. I was perfectly content with the 60 degree weather we were experimenting with only a week ago. This 40 degree stuff has got to go. It is spring. Get it together, Indiana.

Have a good week, all! And remember, only 25 days until Easter Break!! :D

Well welcome back, AU

March 21, 2011

How’s everybody doing? I wish I was still on the beach. I’m not ready to be back in classes and at work, but I suppose that’s how it goes. I hope everybody’s spring break was just lovely :] On a positive note, it’s warm outside today! Loving that. I hope it stays this way. And adds sunshine to the mix. That would be nice.

Down to business.

Tomorrow, the 22nd, the Marine Corps Officer Selection Team will be on campus in the BOD from 9:30am to 2:00pm conducting a pull-up challenge. They are looking for candidates to train with the Marine Corps WITHOUT the four-year obligation to serve. To learn more about this opportunity, please visit their website at http://officer.marines.com/.

Teacher Candidate Interview Day is coming up! This career fair will be on April 20th, from 7:30am to 4:00pm, at the Hendricks County 4H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex in Danville, IN. For more information on the career fair, including registered schools and directions to the fairgrounds, visit http://cccc.franklincollege.edu/ and click on Teacher Candidate Interview Day on the left of the page. It’s still early yet, but you CAN register for the career fair at http://cccc.franklincollege.edu/tcid/candidateinfo.cfm. More information to come as the date gets closer!

That’s all for me today! I hope you get readjusted to your schedules and fit right back into the swing of things without too much struggle. Only 7 weeks left!

SPRING BREAK ’11!!!

March 8, 2011

I’m a slight bit excited.

Where are you going for break? Who are you going with? Are you packed yet??? Okay it might still be too soon. But I’ve made my packing list and I’m ready to throw it all in a bag and jump in the car. Florida, here I come.

But we do have a few more days to get through before we’re set loose. In these next few days I don’t really have any career updates for you. No on-campus recruiting days, no job fairs, no nothing. So I guess I’ll go with the general spiel (which I tried to spell “schpeel” and the computer yelled at me).

If you have not decided on a major, sign up for a Major Exploration Workshop. We can help you figure out what career path best suits your interests and strengths, and what major will get you there.

If you do have a major but are not sure what career path you want to pursue, we can help you determine your options and see what industries interest you.

If you need résumé, cover letter, job/internship help, we have résumé workshops and builders, job/internship postings and other resources to get you prepared for “the real world.”

All these resources, as well as any news on upcoming events, can be found on Raven CareerLink (www.anderson.edu/ravencareerlink).

That’s all I have for you this week. But I am curious, what did you think of chapel this morning? If you missed it, well then you missed out. On… something. I mean, I liked it. He was like the old grandpa you visit in the nursing home and laugh at his stories of when he was a wee lad and sang campfire songs. And then you get to leave and go home and be happy you don’t live there with him.

But really, I liked hearing about what EDGE was doing. Even if his acronym did spell EDGD. Sounds like an organization I might want to get involved in.

Okay kids, enjoy the rest of your week! You can totally make it to Friday. I just know it :]
